Purchase or borrow a lens cleaner disc and try it first. You can find these things really cheap at many stores. They usually get the job done well. Can't offer much more than previously advised but just one point. Are you trying to play standard commercial CDs or are you attempting to play CD-Rs, CD+Rs etc? These may have played fine on other units, but some players are choosy about playing recordable discs and will just reject them.
