If it is an L rather than an LS or LX with the screen missing, you will need to change the whole of the front section ... trying to mount a contrast screen on the standard L front will result in misery ... I know ... it happened to me. I have a screen, but not the front plastic section. Neil

Hi, Either the tube is fading fast (which seems unlikley) or there is a weakness in the line output transformer/focus unit. Neil

Yes, this would appear to be the most common failure mode of these. There is a good possibility that the power supply/line drive IC has died. These are no longer available, but the one out of the MX3000 will work. You should also consider changing the line output transformer as this is likely to have reached the end of its life and failure of this can

I have a Topfield 5800 with 160GB ... which in my opinion is plenty ... more than this is wasted money, unless of course you want to keep 6 months worth of every soap that the BBC and ITV put out. Niggles are almost none and the user interface is streets ahead of anything else I have used. Neil
