You could try 0000 as the pin. Maybe it's been activated but not changed from default. Other wise wait until you hear from Keith Saunders. He's a bit of an expert on these things! The non working "DOT" key is a common fault apparently. Just fixed one of mine with a new front for not much more than a tenner. Edit See, he's here

They will switch off automatically 3 minutues after signal stops and on again when signal starts!

'Tis held in place by a small screw from underneath. Tricky job as you have to remove the tone arm. Be careful, the wires are very FRAGILE!!! The service manual is available on site to silver and gold members, it may be worth upgrading your membership at this time.

Yes, the service manual is on site and includes exploded view with part numbers. I recommend that you upgrade your membership to gold for full access and 12 chances of winning some terrific prizes.

The back up battery for the memory has failed. Cheap and easy replacement but you need to be used to working inside a TV. There are dangerous voltages present even with the set turned off and disconnected from the mains. The replacement battery costs around £3 and is soldered to a board in 3 places.

The metalwork is stainless steel not aluminium and is held on with double sided sticky tape, just peel off and replace! The biggest panels are around £60 in the UK and all are still available from B&O dealers.
