Tend to agree that these decks are very lightly built. You need a Beogram 4000 - that is proper engineering!

I see what you mean but does it cause any audible problem? It looks very minor. I think these later decks had very thin platters and yours appears to have a slight bend. Check the platter is sitting properly on the subplatter though and that the black plastic card is seated properly.

The manuals for the 1800 etc are on - to alter the speed, there are two variable resistors on PCB 2 which is situated under the arm - I think there are two access holes under the bottom of the deck. Look at page 1-1 and 5-1 for the laction. Service manuals are always a bit terse as they exect you to know things not in the manual!! This one is actuallly

It sounds like the Onkyo has a dedicated phono input - it is labelled phono so I would expect it to have a built in RIAA. All you need is the adapter cable - Steve at Sounds Heavenly can supply a good one.
