If you had the remote I would suggest trying it in Audio mode which could straight away narrow things down to Line timebase or PSU. I suggest looking for dry joints in the PSU and checking the transistor that drives the chopper. Then look at the big transistor driving the LOPT and the one that drives that too also drys around this area too. Drys are

Could be the potentiometers, relay contacts or capacitors probably in that order. Could be the motor. Have you tried a drop of oil but obviously make sure it doesn't contaminate the belt.. How did you eliminate the belt by any chance?

think you need to go into a little more detail. what happens when no record and press start. Does the arm reach the record or stop before this etc..

just to add, as I didn't see the cm bit before but it might actually be the initial adjustment for 33 record being mal-adjusted you need to read the SM as to how to adjust those little leaf switches... Let us know how you get on!

I would start by carefully pulling the sensor housing out of the arm (it should slide foreward with a little GENTLE persuasion) and checking all connections to the sensor... and if it is socketed check the contacts are ok.. I would guess the sensor lamp is actually lit?!

I guess it is a bit of a stab in the dark Jacques but unless anyone else thinks otherwise you not got a lot to loose? Of course, you still can't entirely rule out the processor but it is looking much less likely now!
