Hi Rick: Well I think you really need to look at B&O's design challeneges. First and foremost the design imperative was the cabinet. The engineers then had to figure out to pack all the electronics inside (typically B&O) very odd shapes. This is not easy to do if you consider the wedged shape of the BM 8000. Obviously the software "features" of the 8000 would then be transferred to the 8002, however the units will work. I will qualify this by saying that I've never performed the swap

Phil: Your other alternative is to find an 8000 turntable and swap the entire "microprocesor tin can". Martin cracked the tacho disc problem but few people know about its availability. Many 8000s have stopped working and are being tossed out because people can't find this replacement part. You might have some luck finding a donor machine

Hi Chris: My other 4002 (DC Motor version, which is same as your 4004) does the same thing in terms of distortion. It doesn't warble but closer to the inner diameter of the platter there is noticeable distortion especially on the high end. I don't have a secondary cartridge here to compare but I suspect that it has to to do with suspension failure

Yes you need to ensure that the platter (between the ribs) is 23mm from the top edge of the tone arms. This should be verified both at the outer edge and the center of the platter. If it is dead on then you shouldn't change it.

The deck is intermittent. Somtimes it will shut off completely, other times half way ON 0TR1: (OFF Condition) base voltage is 3.6 V; emitter voltage is 3.0 V Other times: base voltage is 0.5 V; emitter voltage is 16mV C2 electrolytic has already been changed with new one. Chris: Martin's got replacement belts for the 4000 series turntables if that's indeed what's wrong. They should be changed anyhow as all are geting loose and cracked.
