Have to admit up front that I've never worked with these personally... But I took a look in the schematic, and I'd check the diodes D1 to D5 inside the preset module - looks like a leaking D5 could cause preset 5 to disturb the others. Those are a penny a piece 1N4148's so it will not be an expensive experiment to just replace them.

My SMMC4 took just about exactly three weeks - delivered to a friend in Dallas. Then, I would expect three to five more working days for the courier to carry it over the Atlantic. Also, note that your local customs service may take days until they bother to pass stuff through and somebody lets you know that you're about to receive a shipment.

Looks great, but about the magnetic swappable speaker cloth - I have to mention that this was pioneered by at least Jamo (of Denmark...) with the Graphic panel speakers whose front surface is otherwise black glass. I have a pair at the summer house and quite like their sound. Seems they have sensified the colour selection

Usually I'd suppose so as well. But there are legitimate ways for the cables to end up cut - think for example wall mounted speakers, where the power & signal cables have been built into the wall. Same with televisions, the power cord may have been originally taken off at the TV end, perhaps a longer cable put through the channeling and reinstalled

That stuff on the resistor looks more like foamed & dried protective lacquer to me, and that would've been there from the factory. I don't know what your personal perception of "lean bass" means or if I would hear it the same, but the newly refoamed drivers will need some playing before they will sound right. Give them a little

The first find seems an MCL2something all right. It doesn't contain an amplifier, just some circuitry to send/receive remote commands from the transceiver (last pic) connected to it and pass them on to the main system, and a relay to switch on/off the local speakers connected to it. You must have two more of them somewhere as the IR transceivers
