Sorry to hear about the damage fonz. These lids aren't available any more and becoming nearly impossible to find now. There is a "new old stock" one which keeps appearing on ebay UK which I would urge you to buy (it won't be cheap though) while it is still available and worry about the insurance claim later. Chris.

There tends to be a fluctuation in voltage mains supply in any case. In the UK between @ 220 & 250 volts. Chris.

Soundproof is right! There's no way you should risk doing this. Other than the possible damage he's already mentioned, you can add the probability that the platter becoming detached will also wreck the tonearm, tracking arm and whatever cartridge you have fitted. Chris.
