The variable resistor that controls the speed needs replacing - I dare say Martin (Dillen on site) can possibly help. The belts probably should be replaced anyway though - both of them.

I believe the problem here will be the set talking to the DVD1. There is no integral remote control receiver in the DVD1 so you rely on the TV. The 8800 uses the 'Mars Bar' remote which will work with the 91.2 no problem but I cannot see any way it will work with the DVD1. I would suggest actually getting a different make of DVD player. All the 2300/3000 type machines use what is basically a Philips laser. However there were lots of changes as Philips (and the company that now makes them) changed specs regularly. There are differences between the BS3000 and BC2300 - as far as the CD is concerned these are because the Philips assembly was updated regularly - it doesn't however always follow that newer is better! However remeber these devices do have service lives and it makes sense to get a relatively new model. The 3000 is pretty reliable, certainly more

What about the BV8-40? Cheaper certainly - the BV7-40 obviously has more features but will you use them?
