David; I would hold on until de end of summer when is expected the new BV7-32, based on a completely new chassis with additional connectivity options like HDMI ports. I have the feeling by going through this post that your mind tells you to buy the BS1 while your heart bits for a Serene... I own an almost 2 year old Serene and it's still fantastic, as in the first day. However I will not try to persuade anybody to go for this mobile phone unless you really want to watch everybodies' jaws going to the floor

The top (unscrewable) piece is definitely metal (cold feel). I haven't checked the lens itself. If it's plastic, what a good imitation of aluminium!
