• Re: Ebay purchase from the US

In the EU, even sellers of secondhand items must register for sales tax! So every ebay transaction in the EU has to pay sales tax? that means also that something posted outside of the EU should be tax free! so this amount should be refunded to the buyer! In theory yes. In practice

Not sure what you are trying to tell me Graham, but for me it's quite a simple calculation. Whatever I sell on Ebay is just the price for what I get and the actual shipping costs. Simpe as that
I'm with you on this one Leslie... Sales tax? ebay is a second hand market

So, from the selling price deduct the following:- 1. Sales Tax (VAT in the UK) 2. Ebay Fees 3. Paypal Fees 4. Actual Cost of Box/Packaging 5. Time for proper packing I calculate that the cost of the first three add up to around 25% of the selling price, possibly more. I don't feel that I should contribute any more!

There are two things that everybody forgets to add to the cost of shipping. The first is the cost to the seller of the box and packaging. This must be passed on to the buyer as an addition to the "actual shipping cost". The same goes for the cost of taking the item to the

  • Re: Disc Error (DVD1 mark I)

You could try cleaning the laser lens but this usually does not work. Mk1 DVD1's are a lottery, I am surprised that this one was still working! The repair involves replacing the DVD mechanism so will not be cheap!! You will be astounded at how little you have bought when you take the lid off and see all that fresh air in the box.

The carriage charge of $150 does not seem excessive to me. From the UK to US, a booking via Interparcel (UPS) would cost around £75 plus insurance£10 plus box/packaging £10 equals £95 or very approx $150

  • Re: Which BeoGram to buy today?

Your Beosound 9000 does not have RIAA preamp built in. The Beogram 6000Quad has RIAA buiilt in so is a straight plug and play with your 9000. Other similar decks such as Beogram 4000 or 4002 do not have the built in preamp and a separate one would be required. The sound quality from the 6000Quad is as good as you will get from a B&O turntable especially

A Beogram 6000 Quad. It has the required RIAA preamp built in and is plug and play with a Beosound 9000. Sound quality is up there with the legendary BG4000 but without the hassle of a separate preamp. Slightly more modern but a grade down in sound quality would be any from BG 3500, 4500, 6500 or 7000. Basically all the same deck except for their aesthetics
