Try cleaning the laser lens. I had this problem recently and cleaning the lens fixed it.

I don't think you can clean the contacts since it is a sealed microswitch. Ask your dealer if the part is still available. Pt Number 7400293

In the MX Sockets menu did you set AV1 to V-Tape (B&O)?

You seem to have checked everything else so check the internal resistance of the mute switch in the deck.

The IR sensor is the knob protruding from the right/front/bottom of the unit.

The rails on which the carriage run have perhaps become detached from their holder during transit. I have seen this and it is a simple matter to push them back in. If not then it is possible to adjust the perpendicular movement of the arm. I suggest that you upgrade to silver or gold membership and download the service manual which gives comprehensive

It's interesting to note that TBS knew how to operate the product and could talk about it's capabilities. I am sure that the MD of my previous employers would not have been able to do that without someone technical holding his hand.

Storing the channels is more like the old mars bar remote. Select the channel number you want to store, Scan to tune the channel and press store, store. Set sound to your preferred settings and press store, store, Same with picture settings. The battery probably needs replacing. I did one last week. You have to remove the circuit board completely as

Yes, they are available from your dealer. He can order one for you and will probably fit it while you wait.

Good point Peter. Do you think that the US MX5000 is actually some sort of 5500 chassis?
