I have owned both and I also have the service manual. There are no differences except the type number.

My quest at the time was to find a pair of Lab 150's but there were few available. The QUAD blew my mind such that I just gave up looking! I must get to hear a BM8000 one day but I fear that a direct speaker comparison is no longer possible for me. Somebody visited and heard my set up and offered so much money that I couldn't refuse!!

Your answers to the original post are all very much missing the point. The question asked about RL140's driven by a strong, very clean amp. The 5500 certainly doesn't qualify in this respect being fairly modest 55w output. A boys amplifier really! The passive is a reasonable general purpose amp rated at around 30wpc into 8 ohms (Depends on how you measure?) so most speakers capable of handling this sort of power will be OK. I have a passive which is quite happy with a pair of S80's but I often use it with CX50 as an alternative.

Frog is quite correct. It's probably in the wrong option setting. Assuming you have a Beolink 1000 do the following: Place the system in Standby. The press SOUND 1 STORE This will put it in Option 1 which is the factory default.
