• Re: Beosystem interchangeable?

No - from what I understand, it used a completely different multiroom link system (MCL82 as shared with Beocenter 7xxx - hopefully someone will correct if I'm talking BS here). But you have to be careful with BS 5500 as well. Earlier versions of the Beomaster 5500 need a software update to work in a multiroom setup, see this thread .

  • Re: DAC/ Beoport/Mac Mini

It's not going to improve the end result, more likely just makes it worse. Since the compression is lossy, the damage was already done when the original full quality rip was compressed to the bitrate you have in your files now. If you now decode the music and then recompress again, it will be altered once more and it will only get further away from

  • Re: Beosystem interchangeable?

Performance is pretty much the same - functionally not quite. The 5000 has its own remotes that won't work anything else, and the multiroom link system is also incompatible. Connections are about the same though; for example AUX & CD are still combined on the Beomaster 5500, whereas on 6500 they were separated into different inputs.

Yes, the MKTs cost a bit more, but I thought since these speakers were keepers, I'll only need to pay it once (and never do again!). There aren't that many caps in the RL crossovers anyway. I used 160V caps; the higher voltage ratings would be unnecessary, and physically much larger. There was plenty of space in the RLs. The Penta crossovers

  • Re: vintage equipment
Ipod cables are easy to find on ebay etc. standard headphone plug (for ipod) to din plugs (going into line input tape2 of your beomaster.)
This is actually even easier for BM5500 - it has RCA connectors in parallel with the tape2 DIN, so a similar cable you would use for any amp will do. But since the beovirus

Congratulations Stephen - it's always a little hit and miss when you replace drivers with new types with no knowledge on the parameters of the old ones, but apparently you've found a good match. The service manual is on site for silver and gold members - but why not just replace all electrolytics with foil types? They are not that much more

Patience, Jacques. I waited more than six months for the new CPU for my Beomaster 5000 to surface here, and at least that long to find a new CD module for my BC8000 on eBay. This part you're looking for may just be something that nobody will have laying in a junk box - why would anyone remove it and keep it? You'll need to wait for a BC6000
You must be exceedingly unlucky to have 2 CD units with blown lasers! I have always found that it is the capacitor has been at fault.
I had a blown laser in my BC8000 as well. The trouble in that case was that somebody had been there already before me, replacing some other caps (and forgetting to solder
