In the mean time, you can check the solder joints around the line out plugs. The whole bottom part of the connector bay is often found loaded with poor solder joints, also where the vertical board holding the DIN sockets is soldered in. Sometimes, the PCB tracks can even lift off the board. Dismount from mains, flip over the Beomaster upside down and

Thanks guys, very reassuring to know I have backup from you. This set, being a Grand Prix, was top notch at its time. Built in 1962-63, its circuits and build quality was close to the max of what was possible for a livingroom set back then and it's a superb performer when setup and serviced properly. The owner had a choice of AM (LW/MW/SW) with

Time for a little restoration write-up again. The wonderful Grand Prix Moderne Stereo 609 was always one of my own favourites (among many others...) and I have a couple of them in my collection waiting for restoration but time has not yet permitted much to that effect. Look at the solder side of the board, that's possible with the Beogram in service position. Redo any peculiar looking solder joints, there will be many. A magnifier will help you and in rare cases a microscope is needed. Remove the old solder and add fresh. I like to use solder with a hint of silver in it to help prevent future cracking but less

Great job, one to note ! Martin

Well, first find out what causes the problem. If it's a capacitor, it will have to be replaced. If it's a cracked solder joint, it will have to be redone. The last many Beogram's I've seen of this type had lots of both and the symptoms can vary a lot. As a matter of cause, I like to replace all electrolytic caps from 1uF and up and also

Sounds like a dead cartridge. Try tapping its pins lightly inwards and fit it again. Martin
