Have a second look at the Beolab3's. They will not over power your other speakers, you can easily raise or lower their dominance. As surround sound progresses you will be thankful of having the additional oomph.. beoaus.

Link frequency would need to be turned to permanently on which may be your first issue. If you don't have the setting ML is the only way to turn it on. My BG6000 plays rather loud at line level. Certainly louder than the BG4500 or the BG1202 both with internal RIAA's. Are you sure the module has not been removed?
