Yes, most likely one of the IF transistors. Of course, there could be many other reasons but that would be my first try. Martin

Try tapping the AF transistors gently with f.e. the handle of a screwdriver next time it mutes. Martin

Richtoy, I thought you were doing BM6000's ? I never replaced one single prescaler in a BM8000 What were the symptoms, the same as in the BM6000 ? Martin

You will have to dismount the sliders and take them apart. Contact cleaner will not remove anything, only shift the dirt around and in the best of cases it won't add to the mess. The scratching sounds are usually not due to contaminatino of the resistive track inside the potentiometer but oxidation on the metal track next to it and spraying something

Time for the first power up. On the work bench, a couple of voltmeters attached to critical points on the two chassis', one measuring the voltage on the (second) filter/reservoir high voltage capacitor, the other one is on the anode of an output valve.
