I have now repaired the protection circuit. I didn't want to know, I just replaced the unavailable darlington with a BC516 (thanks Martin) and both BC548s with BC172s. I've let it on playing for hours. Checked the quiescent current again, and adjusted it to 14 mV finally, as per Martin's advice. The only detail I'd like to solve is that

It is an easy fix—I just did mine—provided you know a few basic notions about electronics. The Beomaster 6000 is easy to open and access to modules is easy as well. You shouldn't have any problems finding the necessary service manual which by the way is available on this site to gold members which I'm now proudly one! Do you know

Hi, My guess is bad quiescent current because of bad trimmers in the amp section... The usual!

Hi, I'm testing my Beomaster 4400... I thought the Beomaster 6000/8000 sounded good. I'm surprised at how good this 4400 sounds. It really is excellent! Now I understand Peter or Tim's preference for this receiver... But then it would cost £2,500 in today's money, so buying and listening to this in 1978 must have been a revelation

Note the horrible solution I came up with for the impossible-to-get-at solders.

I have now soldered the proper MPSA06 and changed all the caps, bare the one which is soldered underneath the power switch... Photos will follow!
