sorry, yes it's certainly a 1401 but the compatment is a 'dummie'... look behind the post it notes and there is a flap that opens to the left. there resides the compartment where batteries would go - in the beotalk 1400. i just bought a beotalk base and i wanted to swap the lids because my 1401 base has the current bang and olufsen logo... call me compulsive

Alex: I'd try it without the BeoLab 2 at first, and then add one if you really feel it lacks punch. I've found the BeoLab 9s to be far more capable in terms of performance in low frequencies (although maybe not as loud). I'm trying to get behind the battery compartment to get the pins back in place so that the lid opens and closes properly (I accidentally knocked the lid off it's pins), I'll keep trying, and thanks for the reply, i just don't want to damage it!

I was fiddling with my 1401 base and i ended up taking the lid off of the thing. I looked for a service manual b ut couldn't find one, does anybody know how to get the thing apart?

This IS sad and disconcerting. We haven't really discussed Beoworld with our dealer in Adelaide, but they do go on the site, so maybe it is just some of the dealers this end of the earth...
