Listening to Sacre de Printemps in Salonen's version with a pair of Sennheiser HD580s that I can't seem to be able to part with. Listening through headphones is very enjoyable, really lets you zoom in on details. Will check out the Grados again - used to listen to a pair, but found them too heavy on the top of my noggin. Great sound, though

You'll get an unbalanced turntable, the platter will be falling off, the drive will probably end up out of "whack" and who knows what will happen to the calibration of the motor ... Alex thinks you wanted to play records in that position, but your post makes clear that's not your intention. But storing the record player vertically

Guess why I went straight to the 1967 and 1973 catalogues? Fun to see how dry the presentations of Beolab/Beomaster 5000 and Beogram 4000 were - to the point, and that's it!

I've now had a number of fine days with a Beogram 4000. Very pleased - open soundstage, detailed sound. The deck is supposed to be slightly bass shy, but since I'm bass shy too that hasn't been noticeable. Good punchy bass on Donald Fagen's opening track Morph the Cat from the record of the same name.
