What an exciting find ! Definitely a Dirigent prototype thingy on its way to become designed by someone else. Could be interesting to see the other sides, especially the backside (and inside) and does it have ventilation grills on top ? Martin

Maybe Ridax would be the man to ask. Martin

Yes, it's a nice collection. Actually, Jan kindly allowed us to use his photos in our product guide so you can find them there as well. Martin

Hi Bill, and welcome to Beoworld ! Nice to see a collector of vintage B&O based in the US. Original dial glass is hard to find, often the only source is to find a donor unit but that in itself can also prove tricky. Besides, if/when a similar unit is found it's often very tempting to restore that one as well. Alternatively, a new dial will have

Off with the lid and let's have a look inside. First thing I noticed was a tiny ball of solder that came out when the covers were pried apart. So that was the little object, fine ! Inside we find a printed circuit board with the transistor-based amplifier, the potentiometer with switch, the "Hammond" spring based reverberation element

Yes, you are both right. This one is made that way too - we'll get to that. And Peter, if that's true go sit in the corner ! And you too, Lee ! - A different corner ! We can't have you two together... Martin

The B&O echo units are also considered rare and this particular piece, sadly, hasn't got much going for it in the looks department. I'm not talking about its design - which in itself is a fairly long way from what we are used to see on these webpages and surely quite a distance from anything Jacob Jensen - but it's mere condition. It's

The floorstanding vintage B&O units are generally rare to find. I suppose they take up enough space to be annoying to hold on to for years, especially if in need of service too (and most are) so many owners gave up and threw them away. The 1960's Grand Prix and Master Deluxe TV/radiograms, being some of the later models, do come up occasionally
