Oh well. It's not only the dynamic range that increases with each increment of bit depth you know. The signal converted from digital will alsobe lot smoother and contains a lot less distortion, and closer to the original soundwave. There are many sound formats out there that supports 24bit 196khz such as DVD-A, DVD and Blu-ray. Besides we are talking

Well the point of a D/A converter will an unparalleled capacity is simply not to lose whatever that is recorded. For example the ability to play master recordings that might be made available online or the upsampling of current formats to allow easier D/A conversion. Anyways it's always good to overengineer to instead settle on a compromise. Well

B&O should totally mould Beosound 5's platform like the Nova Physics' high end harddisk player. http://www.novaphysicsgroup.com/BrochurePage2.html . That hard disk player seems to be a very future proof and modular - it can be upgraded to have full Blu-ray playback and is able to rip DVD-A, it also has 32 bit dacs which can probably accommodate

OMG is that the real BeoSound 5 I am looking at? It's totally utilitarian. Maybe more details at the sides and back? With a super thin lcd/led touchscreen maybe? Cos this just looks so conventional and not refined enough.

Very edgy and intellectual. Turning something that looks very serious into something fun. Cool!

Don't forget about Flac and 24bit/196khz support too or it will just become another lame pedestrian hard disk player.

What's so good about the Beosound 9000 that it should be kept in production? It fails to work every now and then because of some trapped dust and it takes kinda long for it to load its discs. Beosound 9000 isn't a practical design at all.

I think that it is highly likely that the "sound improvement function" that B&O is going to implement is something to more of the likes of Linn, Wadia, DCS and Meridian technologies. In theory a hard disk based system can provide better sound than a direct from cd player, the new technologies employed by the companies mentioned uses special

Beosound 5 sounds hot! However, 500gb only? I have come to realize that many new harddisk players are looking very high-tech indeed; maybe because of the colour touchscreens? Anyways I just bought the new Olive which was introduced just weeks ago. I am so glad I found an affordable good-looking harddisk player. The interface on the Olive could be improved

Quite impossible actually. Think about it, if BR is the chosen format for PS3 games there's no way that it is going to die in 5 yrs. Besides in Singapore, I think the sales are really taking off because I am seeing like so many BR DVDs at HMV now. True that part of BR's purpose is to prevent piracy but just think about the storage space provided
