There is a lot of black and white in this, and also a lot of grey. When I am so adamant that I say that I prefer my 40-year-old B&O system to a new digital system, well, that's he grey speaking. But to get to that stage, there was a lot of black-and-white involved. To restore that 40 year-old system, there was a lot of methodical and measureable

Hey guys, take it easy - I goofed. I misread the active vs powered in Electrified's posting. Yes, I know the difference between active vs passive X-over, and active vs powered speakers. And, no, I'm not in retail (I'm a very poor b-llsh-tter, so I can't convince people to buy something I know is cr-p inside) - I restore electronics,
A small mediocre 2-way active speaker (powered by big enough amps, say, 100W) costing, say, £1000 will eradicate any passive speaker the same size no matter which one, and no matter if it's powered by 2000W amps, "biamped" - regardless of cost.
I definitely disagree on that. Being that

What a man.... what a man! Just wonderful ... these BeoWorlders!!!

Yes, I've done many of these. B&O uses the very common Philips CDM mechanism. C2103 needs to be replaced with a 47uF 25V (preferably). Being that the original blue Philips capacitor is now unobtainable, I have tested Panasonic FM type, and it works just fine. I also replace all the other electrolytics at the same time. I am always skeptical

Soren Good luck - I'm looking forward to your pictures. I now use DeOxit products - I finally found stuff that really works well. Contact cleaner is DN5S-6N ; Pot/fader cleaner and lube is F5S-H6. I'm not sure if they're even available outside the US. I have a friend buy them for me, and mail them. Menahem

Hi Tom You need to replace the capacitors, as Martin mentioned. Then having done that, if the problem remains, you need to measure the main rail voltage on the main PCB. If there is still more than about 1.5V deviation from the voltage specified in the Service Manual, you need to look at replacing the power supply regulation transistors. Take a look

Hi all, JAndyT is bidding for me on this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/?ViewItem&item=330485036836 . The seller is not interested in non-UK bidders. I've been looking for years for this one - it'll make all my CD4 restorations much easier. Please don't bid against him!!! Menahem

Very good Martin! Close enough - it was the -12V line. The 6800uF services the +12V line. Menahem

I've just got the BeoCenter 9300 in for repair from a customer in the Caribbean. As with Clive's unit on the previous page of this thread, this is a later 1997 model, with the SMD capacitors on the CDM12 CD PCB - the SMD electrolytics on the upper side, and SMD tantalums on the underside. And as with Clive's unit, the big 330uF (C2000 5VDC
