Imho going for 'the best' option is buying a nice pair with foam rot and get new original drivers, not the cheapest option but your CX's will be as good as new and last another 15 years and you know there hasn't been 'fiddled' with. Cheap option is buy with foam rot and replace foam rings yourself, personally i'm not too

Erik, as far as i remember it's the same as with the older LX 5500 vs smaller LX4500: The LX6000 has no foam type speakers but rubber as opposed to the smaller LX5000. Just pull off the frets and you'll probably see there's no reason to be afraid :).

Have the doc on the mods now....so now i have to see what the owner wants :). In the doc it doesn't mention which type of tube is the replacement one and also i'm not clear if it needs different mounting-bushings but it looks like it doesn't, so if anything i'll try my luck with an LX5000 tube.

Cool...where did it come from ? (you got it from an auction site and had it shipped ??). I'm sure it'll 'outlive' the later generation (plastic) systems, which in a way will make it more of a challenge in future to find these in a good condition :).
