if I buy a VHS tape cleaner - do they work ?? Is it worth a try ? if that does not do it, is replacing the tape heads a DIY job, or B&O engineer to visit home ?

wow, just amazing how you arrived at that "spoof" and I was about to splash out on a Converter Box 4th item down £71.91 ex vat Model Ref: JP-COMPONENT2RGB http://www.threedoubleyou.com/otherconverters.htm COMPONENT TO SCART RGB CONVERTER FOR APPLE TV, GAMES CONSOLES ETC.

put a video tape in the Avant and can hear the movie sound track, but no picture, have had a fiddle and cannot fathom it out, tried some other tapes, same thing, tried recording from a blank take, can record the audio but no picture, weird :-( anybody have some ideas that I can try to fix it !

before I splash out on a new tube, has anyone taken out the TV of an Avant and replaced it with a Plasma or LCD screen ??

can now confirm it is 3mm thick does anyone have a broken piece they can post to me by chance, I think I can get a single sheet of perspex the right colour, and provide a service ( at cost and p&p ) for replacement front panels for the 5000 family if I can get the colour right.

they are one of the best CD players around, my CD50 was playing up before Xmas, and I got it serviced by Tim and it sounds really good again. combined with the Beomaster 5500 and some good speakers, CD's sound warm and natural, very similar to vinyl on a good turntable like the Beogram 4000
