  • Re: Beocom 5 quality in general

Actually, you got it right both times - the Beocom5 phone itself is poor, and the speaker is much worse. The 6000 is wonderful - my 10+ year old 6000s are and always have been working perfectly. The 2 looks very smart in the living room, but not ideal for everywhere in the house (eg not great for kitchen or bedroom).

Beocom5 is particularly dreadful. The speaker base just DOES NOT WORK (as you describe). It is impossible to hold a conversation through the speakerphone. This was SUPPOSED to be solved with the new release of software, but it made no difference at all. Other issues with the handset were not solved by the software release either. The dealer has taken

  • Re: Beocom6000 - No Signal

Not clear whether it is the handset that you have unplugged or the base unit (BeolinePSTN or whatever). Try unplugging the base unit and replugging it - this "robooting" may just kick it back into action. It could be that the thunderstorm interfered with the base unit memory, and it has "forgotten" your handset - in which case you

  • Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

The chart I saw shows that the Mark I is not compatible with Beoline2. Moreover, having been assured that the chart was wrong, I was sold a BeoLine2. The chart is right - it does not work - and the Beoline2 went back. Beocom6000 Mark II are OK with Beoline2, but not Mark I.

Beocom6000 Mk1 handsets are NOT compatible with Beoline2. The PSTN base is the only one deemed to be compatible with both Beocom6000/1 and Beocom5. The PSTN base is discontinued, though second-hand ones appear occasionally.

  • Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

The aim was to have it as the main phone (with speaker). It sits in the lounge. But since the speaker doesn't work it isn't first choice. In fact, the Beocom5 doesn't start ringing or showing the caller id until 10 seconds after the 6000s!!... so I have time to walk across to my desk and look at the 6000 before the 5 tells me who is calling

  • Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

I got my Beocom5 because I wanted a speaker phone on the same system as my 6000s. But the speaker base (in the UK) currently just doesn't work - the person at the other end can't hear you due to breakup - theoretically it should be OK after a promised (sometime) software upgrade. The Beocom5 is pretty (but the 6000 isn't ugly), but its ergonomics

  • Re: BeoCom 5 sound problems

Yes - my Beocom5 and speaker-base are sitting looking pretty and absolutely useless. I bought a Beoline2, having been assured in writing that my Mk1 Beocom 6000s would be compatible with it (which they aren't), so it is being swapped for a (rather ageing) Beoline PSTN... which costs almost as much as Beoline2!!! I look forward to keying in my phonebook

"No dial tone" comes on whenever you pick it up. The speakerphone sounds nice... to me... but... the person at the other end can't hear a thing, as the sound breaks up. It usually tells you who is calling, but occasionally says "Incoming call" (not all that illuminating), then rubs salt in the wound by storing the correct name
