The first thing I usually do is grab a Q-tip and 99% alcohol to give the lens a clean. Have you tried this? On pretty much all philips drives there is a capacitor (usually 33uF 16v) that is part of the laser supply. When it dies, and it does, the player will not read anymore. Those are the 2 most common things I can think of.

Soooo..... the saga continues... IC's sorted, still no work. A MUCH closer look found 2 corroded traces on the CPU board. Thank god I have a stereo microscope.... Fixed the traces and the set stores correctly. Problems sorted. A hard-won battle for a $300 score. That's the beauty of ebay. Expect the absolute worst and you won't be disappointed

Does the Beosound 2500 have the option to turn off the remote? I looked at the manuals but saw no mention. I know that other systems can be disabled, like the 9500. Anyone?

Thanks! I figured they were, but wanted to be absolutely certain. In the meantime, I DID locate a MK-V chip and replaced it. My 9500 is back to it's former wonderful self. My next project is to replace the opamps and caps in the audio path. ESR on the small caps is getting pretty high. Still, for it's age I have no complaints.

Good luck with that. As for the LED segments, they can get intermittent or go out altogether. The problem is in the gold wire that connects the LED wafer to the PCboard. These were not potted yet like modern 7 segment displays. As far as I know, there is no replacement for these. But I have found that the "wire" can be glued back down using
