Martin, i'm sure you did this already but just in case (sometimes the obvious is not thought about..): doesn't the previous owner know anything about the history, and who took the "heart" out ? :). It may well still be in an old barn or attick, that generation (in those days of war and starvation) wasn't keen on throwing things

Hi Eric, my guess is you're based somewhere in the UK (and i'm in central NL), but maybe if you post your location here someone closer to you can help ?

Hi, start with measuring the HT transistor (BU2508DF) for shortcut, if so: this is likely caused by bad solderings at the capacitors (connected to the C of the HT transistor) C101 / C102. Of course i assume you're confident enough with electronics to work inside the tv yourself. It's usually a small repair with these tv sets, unfortunately the

The easy way would have been to just buy a Y-splitter, standard available for a few dimes....would have saved you cutting cables etc because this whole thing may very well not work !! The thing is: you're placing 2 (IR-) Leds parrallel and, unless they're ''equally paired'' (almost never is my guess) the one with the lowest threshold

Cor, the following could shed some light to establish if it is the tube or not (this works with RF models but not sure with the older one, but worthwhile to give a try). !! If you're confident working inside a tv it's a small thing but if not don't bother as you may do more damage to yourself and the tv !! (but ask someone to do this for

Well, maybe someone here (from the forum) can help :), of course depending on where you're based. (i'm based in central NL).

My guess is this is a curved avant and not an RF ?? In that case it could be the tube, but it could also be something in the powersupply/deflection area...i think someone has to stick his nose in the back to give a good answer to your question :).
-
My bet is the tube is gone (as usual with these...) and has nothing to do with what you did... You could try to get the tube fixed by ''glowing and tapping'' (done by someone who knows about this): nothing gained, nothing lost...or replace the tube (which i could do for around 200 inc new tube so maybe also someone in your region). Regards
