Maybe you should check the tracking force with a digital scale. It could have become out of adjustment.

I have posted this in the Workbench -> Beogram 4000 restoration thread but have not received an answer yet. That's why I'm moving it in the hope of some kind of help. I am trying to adjust the tracking force but no matter how I adjust the screw on the back, I can't get more than approx. 0.90 grams when the adjustment wheel shows 1,5.

Great suggestion. My VTA was actually too low at .75 where it should be 1.00. Interesting to find out if that cures the distortion that I hear on some tracks.

Ah - thanks for the help. However my scale is to thick for that. Any suggestions for a scale that can actually measure it?

BTW how do you measure the tracking force (VTA) on the Beogram 4000? I bought one of these small digital scales (which actually seems to be too big for measuring the VTA on this particular record player) but I don't know how to lower the stylus without a record on it.

If you mean the two metal plates, then yes. Anyway, I switched to my other Beogram 4000 which works fine. But of course I would like to know what is wrong with the first one.

Sometimes - well always, now - the arm doesn't travel to the start of the record before it lowers the pick up? Any ideas why. I looked in the service manual but didn't get any cleverer.

Dear all, Thanks for a lot of help so far. However, I do have a small problem with my Beogram 4000 lifting the arm a little early on some 7" singles, not playing all of the music. On other 12" albums, it sometimes does not lift the arm when the album is finished. I tried adjusting one of the contact springs ("A" in the service manual

It was indeed the belt. I changed it with the one from my other Beogram 4000 and now it works perfectly.
