Gee, I feel like a regular Sherlock now! Looking at the remote, all the video source buttons (TEXT also works as one) seem to be on the same column. I guess there could be some surface leakage on the PCB due to dirt or corrosion that will eventually cause the remote to register a click there, or perhaps one of the membrane switches is a bit "lazy"

Then my money is on the theory that the remote somehow switches to video mode by itself... perhaps one of the video source buttons (TV/SAT/V.TAPE) is somehow sticking?
