I believe Youtube really needs your content to be a video clip, that's why you'll always see at least a still image if nothing else. I believe the headphone volume will need to be kept very low to avoid overloading the sound card input and distorting the sound, otherwise it'll be fine. No harm in trying, you might even have such a cable lying around somewhere (for example, some monitors come with one to connect the sound from the computer to the internal speakers).
