Yes, but Beocenter 4000's aren't too plentyful and the deck used in them is doing a fine job as part of one of the better radio/cassette combo Beocenters. A wonderful machine in its own right. I also like the fact that this Beocord 5000 modification seems to be fully reversible. Martin

Looks like one of our good friends has come up with what seems to be a superb and fairly simple solution to the tape eating problems with the early Beocord 5000's. I don't dare to think how many of these wonderful design pieces were discarded because of their tendency to break tapes. Worth having done if you own one and definitely worth a read

Most CD/R's will play, CD/RW's I wouldn't be too sure about. "Copy Control"-ed CD's can be a problem, though. Martin

Chris, Any good electronic parts dealer will have them. I can also sell you two if you cannot find some locally or on the net. The capacitors will have aged and there is a kit for fixing this but if your Beomaster is functioning and sounding good (apart from the shutting down), there's really no rush with replacing the caps. The same goes for the

I don't have any needles, but it may be worth sending it to Axel in Germany for a retip'ing. Good quality work and great sound. I would recommend this. Alternatively, Soundsmith in the US produce new cartridges. Good but (with all respect) a bit expensive compared to the general value of your Beocenter. Martin

A loose connection, I agree. Typically where the flex lead meets the coil copper wire. That will be on the outside of the cone where you can see a solder joint covered in black, just where the flex lead comes through the cone from the backside. Carefully scrape off the black paint to expose the solder joint and redo it. Add a drop of glue, silicone

Yes, those caps are the exact ones. Clearly bad. I suggest you replace the lot. There are in fact three belts in the tape deck. I can include mounting instructions/photos with the belts if you need. Martin

Yes, those are definitely bad, look at the way the leaking boric acid have attacked their leads. Many of the others will probably be bad or at least marginal too. Still, they were not exactly the ones I had in mind. Look near the circular cutout for the dial pointer gear. You have a PM regarding belts (check your inbox at the extrme top right corner

There are some small japanese-type capacitors in the signal path that often go bad, often leaking their fluid contents. Some are located near the tuning gear cutout. If it's only low on FM check also the MPX filters. The next function winds the tape to the next track, the light should not be lit at all times but if the tapedeck is not working, it
