I just got a Beomaster 6500 in the door. It plays well, but has a mute R-channel on Speaker 1. Any suggestions?

Yesterday I went and picked up a Beomaster 6500 made in 1990. I don't see myself doing that with 17 years old Marantz products. The seller also had a Beocenter 9500 and a pair of Penta speakers. He'd had dozens of phone calls for the items since listing them ... I agree, these boxes have looked the same now since forever. Tell your brother that

This one, then: The CD-player that goes with that was the EISA winner in 2006-2007. The DVD-player is quite versatile: SACD DCDi Faroudja HDMI HDMI 1080P 192/24 audio d/a konverter 216/12 bit video d/a konverter RS-232 There's even a tuner: And it all adds up to a lot of metal - but also some excellent performance. The amps are 2x70w. Given that

So - what did he buy? Spectacular, indeed. Actually, Marantz has excellent sound - but the look and styling leaves something to be desired. At least McIntosh are adamant about keeping their retro styling, where Marantz tries to make their boxes look new ... I don't think your brother will bulldoze your 3500, but nor will you wipe the floor with

Graeme: You can get cables on ebay to add non B&O to the system, but you should try and stick to the B&O bits to get the full use of a great integrated system, with the master control panel you will have a fully remote slick set up, which you cant do with the non B&O products. I agree it's a good thing to go for the system integration

Chrisreunion: What I can't understand is that B&O designed a complete range of SD-card based products (BS2/3/4), & then suddenly changes its strategy ... Quite mystifying, actually. Maybe due to short-term memory being faulty?

Alex: The later BeoMaster 6500s can be upgraded with an RDS board I believe, to bring them up to spec to do everything the 7000 will do. The RDS I consider something I don't need. Want to do the upgrade Beo_Bogener recommends in Workshop, though. He has some nice suggestions both for the BGCD and the Beomaster.

philipsmz333: That IS interesting! Is it more, or less of the wear and tear that enables it to have a richer sound? I have no idea. But I can make some guesses, based upon previous experiences. If the unit has been worked hard, at loud volumes, it will have been running hotter. Capacitors will have dried out, both due to time and such heavy use. Could

Puncher: soundproof: ............... Can't find a service manual, but will investigate this. (Any advice is welcome). Isn't this it??? Hmmm - went looking, and just couldn't find it. You're a better hunter. (And it's not as if I know how to use a Service Manual to fix the problem!)

Medogsfat: Interesting! Maybe it is just down to the amount of use/abuse each have suffered? Chris. That's what I think. The units are supposed to be identical, with the exception of the RDS. Beo_Bogener in the Workshop has some comments on this, and he's inside them redoing them all the time, so he should know. I'm certain it's different
