My local dealer has arranged for the MD of Bang & Olufsen UK, Lars Flyvholm, to give a presentation on the history and future of B&O. True though a shame - the amplifier in the Beocenter 4000 is not one of the best and this machine is actually Japanese with some pretty David Lewis clothes. The 900 on the other hand is lovely!

Which 4000? The twin tape or the single tape?

I would look at the 4000 - compact and very good sound. 3s are excellent - I have both - but a lot more expensive. A second hand pair of 4000 Mk 1s are a very good value choice. 2500s and 4s are very much budget choices - neither have bass in any quantity.

It needs to be a moving magnet pre-amp. The output is about 2.5mV into 47kOhm.

Pleased to hear it. The Beogram 1500 is a really good deck - nice and simple with a good arm. With a decent cartridge, it will take some beating.

Welcome to Beoworld - have a look at this thread - go to the second page and there is a picture. There is a little pin that sticks and stops the arm from dropping - this thread gives you some hints on how to fix it!

I had my MMC2 mended - it had a broken stylus - completely snapped. Very pleased with the results!
