I don't know much about the Harmony, but it might be helpful to know that the SHIFT key never sends anything by itself - it's a modifier key, i.e SHIFT+RADIO sends just a single command (which is different from plain RADIO). I believe you should be able to teach that to the Harmony.

Probably not. Decoding MP3 without any hardware support takes quite a bit of processing power, and there's no reason the current BS1 would have a processor capable of doing it.

Well it seems that you don't actually have a Beolink 1000, but its audio-only predecessor which is called just Audio Terminal (you don't have a TV button either, do you?). It is basically compatible with most current audio products but misses some functions, as you see. I've never had one so unfortunately I can't help you any further
