I would like to know how they setup those extra presets.. Maybe introducing a fault and measuring accordingly? Where's Martin when you need him!

You are far better going too low than too high! If emailing Martin (Dillon) doesn't come up with an answer and you want to find the highest resistance that will trigger the protection circuit (very important when choosing your NTC) then you could use a potenitometer in circuit turn from high to low and determine the cutoff resistance. These decks were actually designed and built by B&O themselves :) Very good Jari I have a 5000 sitting around (think only single capston will have to check) and have not felt like pulling it apart yet - despite lusting after an example for as long as I can remember lol!

I would personally look at the transistors associated with the protection circuit! You could disconnect one end of the ntc and see if that makes a difference. Have you checked all the transistors with a meter?

I have a 6000 that I need to completely rebuild so will take pictures and update this thread. Thing is, I had not planned on doing it for a while yet lol as I have got quite a lot to do atm.

There are no capacitors to be afraid of here. There is a vertical board to the left rear of the player near the transformer this should contain a large axial capacitor. Put your meter leads across this in resistance see what the meter reads...

The main electrolytic capacitor on the power supply is my suggestion :)

Take things one step at a time. This issue will probably not have anything to do with the trim pots just follow the steps above with the aid of the service manual and see how things go from there... Then when all is good you can replace the trim pots!

Hi ok so it sounds like the arm paddle is the next thing to check. You need to check it is dead straight with the tone arm and the required gap so it does not snag the top or bottom of the sensor housing. Center the sensor cam (after loosening the lock screw a little) and then try again.
