It's fun, isn't ? ...fixing teles...more enjoyable than watching :) If not a bit too much soldering somewhere maybe the 'tricky' part has died for good, which in a way makes it easier... Probably a good time for the 'cathode swap'.
-
Yeah: because the lines are green, forget the G2 story ...:) Instead of changing the transistors you could interchange them, i mean swap parts with the blue (or red) outputs so you can sse if the problem 'moves' (thus the lines change colour) and find the fautly part. Another thing you can do (probably easier) is interchange cathode connections

Yes: the socket gets off the tube easily but there's a wire (for focus) stuck in that socket which, in case the G2 / focus unit is replaced needs to come out (in order to get the new wire in) and that's usually trouble. But looking at your pics....does tapping the video output board or tube neck have any impact ?? The fact it's only green

Is it the 'newer' type 78xx ?? I've had problems with these a few times, just replace (and re-adjust of course) the focus / G2 potmeter om the video output board (on the back of the tube). Part is still available from dealers, i'd have to look for the number if needed. If you do the replacement yourself also order a new 'socket'

'You live and you learn':....was working on a broken Avant 8420 with a suspected tube, it has the 'green fog' and stripes. However, tapping didn't have any influence at all and the picture itself is still exellent...(many times with a bad tube it's not ok). The better option for a good diagnose i guess is just to swap the cathode

The Grundig version of the cube :) If you're looking for Vox 3000's you might try checking German second hand products sites (other than ebay), here in NL once in a while they pop up and sell for very little money (i have 2 pairs here, 1 set painted unfortunately and the other recently bought with 2 cubes with a missing shield for 30,- euro
-
To add to that: i haven't done the exchange yet, the owner of the affected AV isn't very decisive :)..... In any case, it's a nice challenge but it does need some other changes too (on the defl board), but seems not an impossible job..

What voltage to the tube did you lower ?? On itself a 'dying' avant shouldn't damage any peripherals (the worst thing could be the 'bang' in the speakers because of the sudden switch-off but i don't know if that also occurs on the powerlink outputs). From your description i'd say the tube is suspected, you can easily find

Did B&O tell you this or is it an assumption rather than a fact ?? Because to me it sounds very unlikely B&O (or any manufacturer) stocking up spares in advance for years, not knowing how much demand there is for it. I've ordered many drivers also for (MX) tv's in the recent past and never had even the slightest impression it was 'old
-
