First make sure you have the position settings correct. To adjust, make sure the CD clamper is at CD #1, then look in back of your Beosound on the top right. You will see 2 rubber plugs covering two holes (it's possible the rubber plugs will be missing - they're not needed). Inside you will see the adjustment screws with arrows. Use a screwdriver

It's the cartridge. Sooner or later all those all those old MMC carts go bad. The suspension that allows the cantilever to move/vibrate is rubber, which dries out with time. You might be able to give your MMC-2 a bit more life by increasing the tracking force a little. Replacement cartridges can be purchased from Soundsmith . They could also rebuild

Out of curiosity, are the older series cartridges (e.g. MMC20CL) less prone to suspension failure (rubber drying out) than the newer MMC1-5 series?

Beocenter 9000 wasn't equipped with 2-way communication. Only the 9500 had it.

Often when I try to play a CD on my BS 4000 I hear a clicking sound and the CD doesn't spin. If I press CD again it seems to work okay. It makes the same clicking sound when I stop the CD - e.g. by pressing Radio. It also makes the noise if I press CD when there is no CD loaded.
