Good It will eventually need service anyway, but it will probably work a long time if you don't use the headphones. Seems though that a simple cleaning of the switch in the socket would do the job.

Most likely the socket problem. Before I posted, I actually verified how it is supposed to work with a headphone jack and my 6500 - and managed to get the Beomaster into a state where the speakers stayed muted even with the plug out. I removed the plug, turned the Beomaster off & on and it worked again. A couple of times, when I removed the headphone

The switch in the headphone socket could be stuck, causing the speakers to be muted all the time. If you toggle the mute function from the remote (or the front panel), do you hear a relay click? You should also hear the same click each time you pull the headphone plug in or out.

  • Re: Quality of Netradio on BM5

The problem is that a popular netradio station needs a lot of outgoing bandwidth, and it costs real money. Bandwidth gets cheaper with time, but unfortunately the number of listeners grows accordingly. However, I believe that a choice of 96 kbps (or worse) for network distribution might be a relic from older times. If you have some definite favourite

96 kbps is rather little for an MP3 audio stream and 128 kbps still isn't quite enough, and I'm sure both of them will be inferior to good FM reception. You may get a wider frequency range (FM won't go over 15 kHz) but the coding artefacts will be audible. Quality of WMA can be better depending on the codec, but generally it will still struggle

  • Re: Beocord 5500 belt

From Dillen. Although my 6500 ran fine for a long time with a suitably long rubber band... EDIT: thinking about it harder - no, it didn't run fine for a long time, but for a few weeks. Now it has some real generic belt, but no, I didn't write down the size...

  • Re: Great tool for ripping to WMA losless: dbpoweramp

It is true. Audio and data are stored in a very different way on a CD. As you say data needs to be 100% correct, and that is exactly why data CDs have a lot more bits dedicated to error correction and detection. CD-ROM drives are designed to read that, while audio CD players are best at reading audio data. They don't usually even try to get 100
