Since the deck works ok into Tape 2 that means that the pre amp in the deck is working ok! Can we just back track. With the deck plugged into the Phono inpu the sound is very quiet into speakers but when you plug headphones in the sound is distorted and bassy??

I've never said that Pentas were that bad, I just prefer the more in your face sound of Lab 5000's.

Connect the 1612 to the AUX socket of the 9500 with an Audio/Aux lead then Masterlink to the Beolink Passive. You will need an IR eye to control the passive.

growcreative: OK, this is starting to make sense, as my local B&O store agreed that it should all work using the powerlink cable, which I promptly bought. Tim is able to fix these at component level. He has fixed two for me in the last 12 months with complete success. The problem with B&O service is that they are generally able to replace pcb's but no more than that. This is a problem if the boards are no longer available!

KingStreet: Peter : It should work using the Powerlink socket. If you have an IR eye, you could use Masterlink and see if it will work that way, I take it that you are using it in the main room? The 9300 didn't have this feature and the 9500 service manual does not give the part number! You could obtain a 5 pin din plug and make one your self. Just connect pins 1-3 together and then pins 4-5. Alternatively you could just push some stiff wire into the correct holes in the socket!!

Under the flip up cover where the other sockets are. There should be a white blanking plug in the socket marked Line In/Out
