My next step would be to replace the cd mechanism. Keith or Dillen may know more.
-
Dirty laser lens or bad capacitor(s) on servo pcb. If cleaning the lens does not sort it I would replace C2103 on the servo pcb which is the board screwed to the underside of the cd mechanism. There are a couple of other electrolytics on the board but this is the main culprit.

There is no transit screw on this model and the mech seems not to be jammed. When you put a cd on the hub, can you turn the cd by hand.?
-
OK. You have no transit screw on that model so it can't be that. Another thing to check is that the cd mech has not become mechanically jammed in transit. Press the load button and the clamper should rise. Now press on the central boss and the whole mechanism should move on it's mounting springs? Does it move or is it jammed?

Sigi_n: Thanks again to you both. I changed the 16 to 3 and also changed the I to L (rather than B/G). Five channels, great sound and picture, now all I need to do is learn French. Best regards, Sigi Glad to have helped. On which page did you find the I to L change? What is the type number of your Avant? The problem for us is that the software has changed

Some copies are a bit dubious!
-
Does the cd laser move in an arc or in a straight line?
-
Are they original cd's or copies?
-
OK forget that step and go on to adjust the TV Tuner from type 16 to 3
