  • Re: Can a BV Avant handle uncompressed surround??

Toubro: My PS3 is connected to my Avant as I don't have a flatscreen TV. That's cool. Definitely keep the Avant. I just meant that you won't get the benefit of watching a Blu-ray on a CRT as they a designed for 1080p screens - the bigger the better, too. Put it this way, an Avant has such as good SD image, an upscaled SD DVD, played through

  • Re: gray Beolab 9

That was the primary reason I went for the 'all aluminium' look for my BV7-40 and BL7.4. Plus, you can put any coloured speaker next to this setup and it works, visually. The other day I saw a dark grey BV7-40, black BL7.4 and black BL9's and that worked quite well, I thought. Mind you, I suppose it all depends on the location of the TV

  • Re: gray Beolab 9

It's a lot of money (£400/total?) for a different colour speaker. The grey leans more towards black than it does white, if that helps! ie. it's in the darker end of the grey spectrum. If you take a look at the loudspeaker options on this page: http://www.bang-olufsen.com/page.asp?id=10 The grey BL9 on here looks exactly like mine - it's

  • Re: Dolby True HD - question for 355f

Razlaw: This is way too technical and complex for me. However, these pages seem to say that if the decoding is done in the Blu-Ray player, rather than in the receiver, any HDMI cable can be used to transmit uncompressed audio Yes, uncompressed audio is not True HD. Uncompressed PCM is supported by both the PS3 and the BS3. However, I was trying to ask

I have the dark grey lab 9's - they are no way near as dark as that mediacenter image though! I'd class them as above mid-grey, but no way near black. They're used next to a silver BV7-40 and look fine.

Toubro: Does this mean that the decoder in the Avant can't handle it or is it the Digital output of the PS3 that can't handle it?? The PS3 can definitely handle it. It can play uncompressed PCM and True HD. However, your TV needs to be able to decode the incoming track. On a sidenote though, and with no disrespect to the Avant (superb TV!),

  • Dolby True HD - question for 355f

Started writing this as a PM, but thought it might be interesting as a topic? You've been discussing the lack of True HD support with the BS3. I was watching Batman Begins and switched the audio setting to 'English Dolby True HD'. Not only did it sound a lot better, more crisp and punchy, but I checked the PS3 'display' option and

  • Re: BV7-40 Bluray?

True. But it's still twice the price of the SD-DVD, and that's my original point. Most average non-B&O (those seeking TVs for £500) aren't going to spend $20 on the Blu-ray when they can get the SD DVD for $8.24. I've watched Batman Begins twice now, but unlikely to watch it again soon. It's a lot of money - for the average

  • Re: BV7 40 MKIII / SW 4.24 problem

seanklemis: it does this when using only HDMI when i connect a scart lead it works perfectly so yes the issue is with pin 8 and 21 the tv when it does not have the scart lead it crashes Not here. I've had the same setup since December 2004 (HDMI/scart for my Sky STB), first with my BV7-32 and now the BV7-40. However, the turning off (yes, it's

  • Re: BV7-40 Bluray?

355f: It depends rather what BR disc one is watching , Correct. I have around 30 Blu-rays from some of the earliest through to the newest, such as Batman Begins. I've noticed a massive difference - with some no better than the SD equivalents. However, some of the more recent Blu-rays are absolutely stunning. Batman Begins is a very good example
