Thank you Peter. Looking for an interim solution for the 8000/8002/9000 system that is contemporary with it. I've sourced a good pair locally with refoamed drivers and, after all, S120s and MS150s don't crop up that often. They will be better than the CX100s I'm currently using!!!! (Gross quality mismatch I know, but domestic harmony needs

A quick question - are the S55s fitted with a captive cable or a DIN 2 pin socket? Checked this site and Beocentral but no information. I would guess it's a 2 pin socket, but need to be sure. Cleve

In terms of design credibility and suitability for virtually any period of B&O kit there is really only one contender - Dieter Rams's 606 shelving system. In continuous production for 50 years or so, it is absolutely timeless. The company manufacturing it represents much that B&O used to represent - long production runs, exceptional build

At the risk of taking this thread further away from the original question, I'm a bit confused about a Beolab/Beomaster 5000 from Frede as well! Can I just turn up on his doorstep, give him 1500 GBP in Kroner and he'll give me a shiny amp and tuner? If so, that's not a bad price for what is essentially a hand-made piece. In fact, given the

This will sound superb - probably better than any modern system you will get. Bass will be light but detailed and if you want more bass, just get bigger speakers
Will those be the longest running speakers ever? For some reason I can't imagine any other company building speakers that stand the test of time SO well. Can you?
Well, yes I can! The first Quad ESL Electrostatic loudspeaker was introduced in 1956 and stayed in continuous production until 1981. In fact, there

Michael, It was 1971 and I'd been left some money in a relation's will. I bought a Beogram 1000 in Teak from my local dealer, along with a Rotel amplifier and a pair of Wharfedale Dentons. Looking back, I still can't understand why I bought the amp and the Dentons and not the Beomaster 1000 and a pair of B&O speakers, or even a 1200
