Here's an eBay auction showing a pair with the grills removed.

I sit corrected - apprently it is. To make sure the BS is set up for active antenna mode, Press . (standby), then TUNE, 1, STORE. The digit 1 will be briefly displayed. I always used a dipole antenna iwth mine and got good results.

No such thing as as far as I know - it's not an active antenna. Unplug it and use a dipole antenna that you can purchase on eBay instead. You'll get much better reception.

I'm going to assume you mean "no *contact*" It means your MCP remote isn't detecting the presence of the Beomaster 6500 receiver. The remote sends a signal, and the receiver is supposed to send a signal back (it's a 2-way remote). This isn't happening. Is the receiver plugged in and close by? If you're not using a BM6500

Here's a link to the discussion about the passive BL8000 clones. Apparently the auction for them was cancelled, undoubtedly at the request of B&O

Definitely try cleaning the heads with either a commercial wet-type cleaning cassette, or a Q-Tip dampened with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol.

Assuming the stylus (needle) isn't worn, that's a sign that the rubber suspension is close to shot. I wouldn't increase the tracking force too much, or else it will start making its own grooves. Soundsmith can rebuild it, or sell you a replacement. Axel can also repair it by fitting a new cantilever/stylus to it.
