IMO There's definitely a difference. Brand new un-boxed BeoLab 5s sound very 'ripe' and 'boomy' in comparison to well-run-in ones. There's something that makes them sound like they're having to push the sound out, rather than it just sounding as unbelievably effortless as they should do.

I'll say as I always do when I see a photo of a new product (even if this one has had other things added in around it), I'll wait until I actually see it before I judge it!

Other than shielding and the quality of the cable itself (nothing to do with sound), I can't say I've ever noticed any sonic differences between cables (although I'm not so sure the same applies for amplified signals).

The BeoSystem 3 gives you an option to choose the sound source, either SPDif or HDMI. I'm pretty sure it supports 'uncompressed' Dolby Digital, it sounds pretty outstanding with BlueRay DVDs, which have TrueHD encoded soundtracks I believe. Noticeably better than normal DVDs...

Hold down the mouse click button as it's starting up, or hold down ALT and choose your HDD when it's started up and eject it normally as you would from within OS X.
