The woofers are 6 ohms so not easily replaced by modern types but I would almost always suggest refoam rather than replace anyways. You need to remove three screws holding the tape drive section. You may also need to lift up the turntable section to undo the connectors and free the cables, they are sometimes too short to allow for flipping the tapedrive upside down. Martin

The majority of faults in these players are caused by dried out capacitors and they are indeed still available. So one of the repairshops you mention may be smarter than the other, sounding like one is able to actually repair
