I'm pretty sure it was produced to match the black system 7000, it can't have been for the systems 5500 or 6500 as these were only never made in black. Chris.

Probably for the same reasons other manufacturers discontinue products. They will have decided this product/design had run its course and they superceded it with the beosound 9000 which is a fair enough repacement IMO. Take David Bowies version of "Across The Universe" which is very good but pales against the original Beatles version with Lennon on vocals.
