Are any radio stations selectable i.e. when selecting stations do any bulbs light up? How about phono or tape? If not could just be bulbs that are blown as they are an integral part of the circuit no bulb = no selection. Talk to member Dillen for new bulbs you need to be happy with a soldering iron and dismantling though... Not a terribly difficult

So they want to remove the whole arm assembly? I would think the RX Lee talks about should be fine I am not aware of anything technically different between any of these decks apart from data link etc..

I don't understand mate, it is far easier to bypass the penta amp than to tamper with your 8000 and as suggested above the 8000 will potentially give better results - I squeezed a small speaker wire between penta column and amp out the back then terminated with a DIn plug. Worked a charm until I could haul the amps upstairs for an overhaul :)

Hi Jacques yes you make a very good point there. A very good way of ensuring the screw thread is ok is to measure the motor current as it traverses. Seeing a nice low current and more importantly an even current drawn across the range is a good way also make sure that the angle bracket holding the bearings is square. Teflon oil is good on the plastic

Hi Evan I was going to suggest this but it still seems a waste really.. I dunno would he be better stripping and selling parts or sell the speakers whole and get some vox's with change to spare for a CDX or other nice addition?

Is yours a Maxon Jacques? Maybe ask Martin but I wonder if yours was swapped at some point in the past? I am sure they would have been quieter when new but IMO the plastic definately adds resonance to any noise! I have sent the details about replacement motors to Martin so will be interesting to see what he has to say on the matter.

Tools required: thin blade / knife fine tweezers contact cleaner (e.g. servisol 10) helping hands fine nose pliers to replace circlip Singer oil. A trip to Maplin or other electronics store will be beneficial. Firstly remove the back end carefully with a sharp knife. Nothing surprises me with these decks though lol!
