I am not familiar with the Receiver however if it has variable pre-amp outputs and you connect via RCA with the switch set to LINE IN then the amp controls the volume. @Michael - you are confusing too many issues IMHO - the sub is driven directly from a pre-amp with 5.1 outputs as are all the other speakers, the the amp in your setup determines volume

Yes pre-amp outs generally RCA - get phono to phono cables from Steve at Sounds Heavenly which you intend to use with B&O Speakers which have an RCA Connector for Line-in.
