Never heard of corrosion in the cartridge. I would certainly try another cartridge though.

The BV7 is fine - you would need to check that the BC1 has the link module fitted.

The story on the streets is that B&O did not release the technology to the manufacturer of the chassis - the same one that builds the BV8 - also no PIN.

They do still make them - though they are not really B&O. Have a look here but I would sit down before looking at the price!

I would agree - I know of only three people who I would have real confidence in fixing these and two are in Denmark.

You may need a software update in the 5500. Earlier ones don't work in the same way as the 6500 - I had exactly the same issue when my 9500 was stolen and I was given a 5500 by my dealer as a stand in. Exactly the same issues which were fixed by getting a 7000!

Had exactly this decision some years ago when both were available new. I bought Penta 3s new. Still have them. 8000s are inredibly beautiful, but Pentas offer in my view a better balanced sound.

It is a Philips type CD player - I believe you can actually get replacement assemblies but these lasers are pretty tough. What is not is the capacitors on the servo board - common fault and always diagnosed as a dead laser! Look here I would suggest a chat to someone able in electrical repair - the service manual is on site and has the circuit diagrams

How much do you use the projector and 7.1 facility? Do you need the multiple connection possibilities of the BV7-40? Personally I would keep what you have and wait for the upgraded 7-40 and then decide. The BV10 is aimed at a slightly different market I believe. Less videophile (is that a new word?!!) and more aimed at a less dominating set which will
